Gray’s Anatomy – How to go fully Gray and Look Hawt.

Hello Everyone! It's your lovely PA Tommy here to talk to you about dying your hair gray and how to look good doing it!

I am not a Hairstylist!

So let me preface this by saying that I am not a hairstylist and all the information I obtained is through hair stylish websites or youtube pages, so don’t take my gay card way, if I make a mistake just let me know and I will learn more!

First Quarantine Was a Wild Time

First off you may have seen that during the peak of COVID a lot of people were doing new things, like baking banana bread, dying their hair, or doing home improvement activities.

Most people did this out of boredom but also wanted a change to their everyday lifestyle which is fine because it made me better at making banana bread and I learned how to do little DIY projects around my house! But I didn’t dye my hair even though I wanted to because I did not know how to do it safely, style it correctly, and look good with the new hair color. So after doing this research I am going to share with you what I learned.

Steps to Dying your Hair

First, what you will need is Bleach, toner, an old towel, petroleum jelly, gray dye, a plastic brush, and some friends, maybe some wine or a great playlist.

Depending on how dark your hair already is you may need multiple rounds of bleach but this can be bad for your hair overall so do not bleach your hair multiple times a year.

Next, you want to apply a toner that will get rid of any of the blonde undertones. You want to leave it on for about 20-30 minutes for the best results.

Then you can add petroleum jelly to your hairline. You can find youtube videos on how to do this properly. You want to do this so you do not have any of the gray dye on your skin potentially causing a skin reaction.

Next, it is time to add the Gray hair dye! You may want to separate your hair using hair clips so you are not making a huge mess and you are applying the dye to more of the hair! Once you have gotten all the dye through your hair you will want to wash out your hair with water and blow dry it. When you wash your hair you will want to use a conditioner that helps keep the color of your gray hair.

Just a tip!

I learned from someone who is a hairstylist that the darker color your hair is the more “red” there is so you will have to use more bleach for your hair. This would mean you would need more time until you get the correct color!

You may think this is a bit excessive or even be scared to try and dye it yourself! However, this is why we have hair stylists out there to help with this. For the best results for silver and gray hair, you will more than likely want to go to a hairstylist! But, you can always try it yourself and see what happens!

Best of luck if you choose to dye your hair!
